Leeds Met Carnegie College 0-2 Pudsey Juniors Ladies

Report sent in by Nigel Cromack
West Riding County Cup, Sunday 19 November 2006.

Pudsey Juniors Ladies pulled off their biggest win ever on Sunday when they travelled to Leeds Met Carnegie in the West Riding County Cup.

Pudsey Ladies v Leeds Met
Pudsey Ladies v Leeds Met

This really was a giant killing act in the true meaning of the word with the Leeds Met team fielding players who play in the National Premier Women's League for teams like Doncaster Belles. Also to put this win in perspective it has to be pointed out that whilst Pudsey train once a week for a hour Leeds Met train 5 days a week for a total of 10 hours. Finally it also has to be pointed out that the Leeds Met team were all 20–22 years old whilst the Pudsey team are between 15–17 years old.

The game was a joy to watch with both teams producing breathtaking football, the skills levels of both teams were of the highest level, Leeds Met had a number of chances early on and it looked like only a matter of time before they scored but the Pudsey defence of Sarah F, Rachel, Liz and Jess, Charlie and the magnificent goalkeeper Emily held them at bay. At the other end Pudsey had their own chances with Sarah C, Faye, Lorna, Vicky and Naomi all pushing for a goal. Pudsey managed to convert one in the 31st minute when Charlotte chipped the goalkeeper to put Pudsey into the lead.

At half time we told the girls they were just 45 minutes away from a famous win and this seemed to spur them on and not only did they ride out the early storm they went on in the 56th minute to score a second when Charlotte scored an identical goal to her first. Leeds Met did have the ball in the net but this was cancelled for off side and Pudsey saw the half out and the final whistle saw all the players jumping for joy whilst the Leeds Met players collapsed to the floor in disbelief.

Well done to all the girls for the game of your lives.
