Williams hits Tingley Athletic for four
Woodkirk Valley faced top of the League local rivals Tingley Athletic at home on a bright and hot Sunday afternoon.
The game started briskly with both sides giving 100%. Woodkirk were slightly on top in the early exchanges, Bleakley, Pearce and Watson linking up well together on the right hand side.
The breakthrough came in the in the 12th minute as Bleakley released Pearce, his strong cross was finished well by Williams. Woodkirk doubled their lead shortly after Williams intercepted a pass and found himself one-on-one with the Tingley keeper, a neat jink round and finish, 2-0 Woodkirk. Tingley fought back bravely and got a breakthrough goal on 30 minutes. Tingley Athletic had a good ten minutes at the end of the half, Woodkirk the team pleased to see the interval.
The second half started at the same pace as the first with end to end football. Stead and Armitage strong in the air against Tingley's two giant midfielders. Tindale and Parry stooped some good breaks down the left by Tingley. Steele was strong and distributed the ball well to Barstow, Armitage and Bleakley. Williams completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute and added a 4th in the 70th minute to sink Tingley's hopes of a comeback. They did get a late goal with three minutes left on the clock with an unstopped shot.
