Junior Football match reports

Rothwell Town 1-5 Woodkirk Valley

Reprt by site user Tom Eddison
Garforth League, U10s, Sunday 17 September 2006.

The teams lined up for the first game of the season as the ref signalled the start of the match. The Woodkirk breakthrough happened around the 10 minute mark where Will took the ball on and hammered into the far corner.

But the celebrations were short lived as within the space of 3 minutes Rothwell got a free kick on the edge of the Woodkirk box. It was a fantastic shot that cleared both the wall and the keeper Joe S. With the scores level Woodkirk got a corner. Joe M's ball was brilliantly struck by Hashim and the score was 2-1.

At halftime the team was changed around with Hashim, Antony, Eliott and Joe S making way for James, Liam, Jacob and Jordan. The second half was all Woodkirk with a Joe M corner fumbled by the keeper over his own line for the first goal of the half. The second was a free kick in which Joe M lobbed the keeper. Minutes later Joe got his second, some beautiful skill which saw him beat three men before scoring.

There was also an incident in which a Will effort was stopped by the keeper but seemed to cross the line in the process. Nothing was given. The remainder of the game was great from Woodkirk in which they attacked well and defence of Jacob and Alex played brilliantly. Fulltime saw Joe M presented with the Man of the Match in what was a truly great opening game for Woodkirk.

Woodkirk: Joe S, Alex, Eliott, Joe M, Hashim, Antony, Will

Subs: Jordon, Jamess, Liam, Jacob

Goals: Will, Hashim, Own Goal, Joe M (2)
