It is a mystery to me why some of the heaviest, loudest acts on the line-up seem to find themselves opening the Main Stage every day but Aiden certainly woke me up while I was enjoying my morning coffee. There was plenty of music to keep everyone entertained, I managed to catch some great acts, including West Yorkshire's The Cribs on the Main Stage, The Automatic (love their version of Golddigger) and The Fall on the NME stage and of course a host of unsigned bands- including this year's winners' of the longest band name award - Leeds' own Shut Your Eyes and You'll Burst into Flames. I also loved the Arctic Monkeys, in a gig they say was their last of the year. They opened with I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor - it wouldn't surprise me if the sound of the thousands of festival goers shouting along could be heard from the city centre. It doesn't matter how hard you try you can't possibly catch everything that's on offer, I think the saddest thing about the end of a festival is that despite the great time you've had you just know there's loads of great stuff you've missed... | | Leeds' Vib Gyor the final unsigned act |
After a windy, but basically sunny day, the weather finally broke at about 7pm. A light shower produced a fabulous rainbow - right over the Unsigned Stage, just before headliners Vib Gyor came on. But my joy at this unexpected beauty was quickly dampened (or rather, soaked) as the showers got more heavy and eventually the heavens opened properly and the entire site became one big dark, muddy puddle. Time to go home, I think. XX Layla |
