Just 5' 5" tall, Billy Bremner was rejected by Arsenal and Chelsea for being too short before being signed for Leeds at the age of 17. Bremner left Leeds for Hull City in 1976, then played for Doncaster Rovers from 1979 until his retirement three years later. As manager of Doncaster he led the club to promotion from the lowest division (and then did the same again when after failed to stay up the following year). He was voted footballer of the year in 1970. In the official Leeds United website's 100 Greatest Leeds Players list Billy Bremner holds the top spot at number one. |
