Play-off final reaction

Leeds United face another year in the Championship following a disappointing play-off final at Cardiff.

Following the 3-0 defeat by Watford at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Kevin Blackwell said:

"It just didn't seem to happen. Someone's got to win and someone's got lose. I'm bitterly disappointed that we lost, but you've got to give Watford credit."

Tanya Arnold spoke to Leeds United manager Kevin Blackwell after the play-off final match:

The disappointment was shared by Leeds United fans around the world, especially the 40,000 who travelled to Cardiff on Sunday 21 May for the game.

Ray Fell, chairman of Leeds United Supporters Club, spoke to BBC Radio Leeds the following morning.

He said: "If there's one thing that Leeds fans like it's a team that gets out there and goes for it... and they didn't get that yesterday."

Ray Fell talks to Andrew Edwards and Georgey Spanswick on BBC Radio Leeds:

Well Leeds fans we are loving it in Sheffield that our city will be the only football team to fly the white rose flag next season in the premier league we will playing Chelsea,Man Utd,Liverpool and you will be playing Crewe,Norwich etc now you will know what it is like to be the,Oh what did the spokesman from Leeds Utd fan club say a few years ago? "you know what these lesser teams are like"well Leeds fans you are now the lesser team.

JIM YOUNG
LEEDS TILL I DIE AND AFTER WE NEED SOME BITE FOR NEXT SEASON BUT SO COME ON LADS YOU OWE US BEST FANS IN THE WORLD A PROMOTION SEASON 1ST . CATCH US IF U CAN .LARKHALL LOYAL LEEDS FAN

Tom, Leeds
A long trip to cardiff and back on Sunday to see the most lacklustre display I have ever seen by a team that has reached a final. The lack of commitment, courage and passion shown by the Leeds United team was unbelievable. The last third of the season has been what can only can be described as a disaster. At the beginning of February Leeds had put together a good run in the league and looked like serious challengers for automatic promotion, then absolute disaster as poor performances all round the park meant that not only did we not get automatic promotion but we finished fifth after occupying third spot most of the season. Blackwell you have done well so far to get us here and yes a lot of managers would have run a mile from Leeds 18 months ago but now that is history - pull your socks up, stop making ridiculous tactical descisions like you made on Sunday, start playing the best line up we have got and get on with it and win the league for us next season and if you think you aren't able to do that then resign and let us move onwards and upwards.

Rolly
I have to say I was delighted to see the "mighty" Whites get hammered - which is what happened. LUFC - you are not a big club. Accept iot and get on with it.

CHRIS POOLE
THEY JUST DIDNT PLAY LIKE TRUE LEEDS UNITED PLAYERS ON LEEDS UNITED TEAM SPIRIT THAT WE HAVE SHOWN IN THE PAST

Gaz in Sheffield
Typical of leeds fans wanting so sack the manager just because you didn't get promoted !! Better sacking a poor team...an Owls fan

Gordon Cameron
It may be a blessing in disguise not going up as we would probably have come straight back down !! The money would have been nice though. Next year could have been a miserable season losing most matches in the Premiership, at least we will win most instead & have a better season & hopefully be there at the end.

MARC BLACKBURN
WELL DONE LEEDS UNITED, FANTASTIC SEASON BUT BTTER TEAM WON ON SUNDAY, LETS GO FOR IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR

Andy 900
Keep your heads up. Forever Leeds.

Colchester here we come!!

joe glavey
We were second best on the day no douby about that but the manager has to accept we put out a defensive formation while watford did the opposite i have seen this fail so many times this season and with the strikers we have a 4-4-2 formation would be much better. hopefully now we can bring in a few more players and win the title next season

Zebberdi
Can someone please explain who came up with the hairbrained idea of sending two men out to try and stop Watford's corners. This is one of the most stupid things I have ever seen in football, why weren't they in the box marking the opposition. You would have thought after Watford scored their first, they'd have knocked on the head, but no, out they went for every corner Watford got. How many times did they stop the ball coming into the box, not once, ZERO. UTTER MADNESS!

Mike Peacock
Not being able to see the game I must rely on soccernet gamecast. By all accounts United arrived without a clue. Ah well, there's allus next year.

gavin
disgusting and appalling performance not worthy of such fantastic support..absolutely no ideas,no confidence to hold the ball..sick of hearing blackwell going on about how close we were to going out a few seasons ago..history,stop talking about it!.and lets start doing it on the pitch..blackwell seems far too content, too often.

Phil, Harrogate
What the hell was Liam Miller, a man who openly admits he's going back to Old Trafford at the end of his loan spell (he will really set the world alight ther!!),playing whilst Eirik Bakke is on the bench? & if someone at Watford had the foresight to take Boothroyd on as manager why didn't Leeds? I dont mind Blackwell but to play one upfront in a final is a travesty. We need a Gary McCallister type player to get us out of that league (Koumas?).

Elliot Brodie
Leeds united could have played better but the ref was bias against leeds. I think that Watford were really lucky because 1 goal was a deflection also we should have had a penalty because Ben Foster grabbed on to Rob Hulse. Then shaun Derry was unlucky when he fouled the clever player Marlon King in the penalty box. But in conclusion i think Watford did deserve the win.

Rob, Leeds
Kevin Blackwell has done well getting the club to where it is today in such a short time with the support of Ken, but most onlookers would agree he did make managerial mistakes on Sunday. It completed what has been a patchy performance season with the team turning the talent on and off from one match to the next. At their best, they could have (and have previously) beat Watford and succeeded in the premiership, looking particularly at their battling performance against Wigan as a good example, but at their worst they don't have a chance of promotion. The challenge now is to make their best performances consistant for the majority of matches. If they can achieve that, we will get a first or second place next season. If not, we'll back here again this time next year.

Lee Ellison
10 hours i spent travelling yesterday, as thousands of others only to get there and see our team NOT want to go up, they had no desire at all. Even though the bitterness will take a while to subside im looking forward to next season when we are truely a favourite to go up. Come on Leeds!!!

anon
unlucky... you're just not cut out to be premiership men!!

Bill
Watford deserved the win, our hearts werent in it. the players need a manger who can fire them up for the big occasion, not one who was looknig to settle mid table at the beginning of the season.

mark in sheffield
well done watford from all at wednesday and the blunts and the all of sheffield
