Fastest time of the day was secured by Nottingham's Dave Banner in the 1098cc OMS race car. Dave was a second and a half clear of second placed man Bill Hutchins from Kenilworth in the 2800cc Pilbeam race car. The top three was completed by ex-rally driver Eynon Price from Llandeilo in another OMS race car, just under a tenth of a second adrift. In the 1400 – 2000cc saloon car Dyrr Ardash from Leamington Spa was within a tenth of a second of matching the class record in his well sorted Peugeot 106 GTi, over half a second clear of second placed man Russell Thorpe. In the up to 1700cc kit car class Mike Smith, from Whitley Bay, took his first class win at Harewood after unseating regular class leader Harrogate man Bob Bellerby, who was suffering from a lack of grip from a new set of road tyres. The larger engined kit car class lost a key challenger on the first competitive run when Otley's Simon Medley visited the scenery in the Caterham R400, leaving the way for John Hoyle, Simon Green and Mike Tate to make it a Westfield 1, 2, 3. In the Formula Ford class, regular Pilbeam and FTD winner Andrew Henson, had entered a Swift and duly took a convincing class win. The event was the first round of the Richard Alexander Volkswagen Championship. The next events at Harewood are on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 May 2006. |
