Stanningley Albion 1-7 Woodkirk Valley

Sent in by site user Mike Hemmins
Garforth League, U11s, Sunday 19 March 2006.

An away game for Woodkirk U11s this week, who travelled to Stanningley Albion and netted seven times to consolidate their position at the sharp end of the league table.

Straight from the kick off, it was obvious Woodkirk weren't in the mood to let anyone down, and went 1-0 up in the first minute, when Parry put the ball through to P Kennedy who subsequently crossed for Francis to tap in.

Five minutes later it was 2-0. An intended lob from McNichol saw the keeper get his fingers to it but Moxon was there to help it in.

It was all Woodkirk, Albion were having difficulty defending against such a good attacking team, and it wasn't long before another goal went in, this time a really well worked move starting right back in defence, Kemp passing to Holden who gave the ball wide to Smith, and Smith under pressure, held up the ball, passed back to Holden, who then found time to look up and chip the ball through to Moxon, Moxon took the ball down the wing and put in a superb cross for Barstow to fire into the net.

Another goal! To make it 4-0, this time Moxon putting the ball through for Parry to knock in.

Just before the break Albion showed they could come forward and scored a superb lobbed shot from outside the box to make it 4-1.

The second half set off much the same as the first, Woodkirk looking really dominant, and it wasn't long before goal number five went in. P Kennedy with a run on goal, was brought down by the keeper, but the ball broke loose and Moxon tapped in.

Valley never let up and Moxon got his hat trick when he rounded the keeper and netted for goal number 6.

The home team were kept busy the entire game and another goal came for Woodkirk when Holden and Parry combined in midfield for Widdowson to score from close in.

Albion did have an attempt rebound off the crossbar, but never looked likely to get back into the game and there were other good efforts on goal from Moxon, Kennedy, Holden and Widdowson, that could have made the score line even bigger, but the game ended with Woodkirk 7-1 victors.

The whole Woodkirk team, without exception, have put in some real hard work lately and it clearly shows - their unbeaten run now extended to seven games. They next play host to Beeston at Sharpe Lane on Sunday 26.

Kilroy got the Woodkirk Man of the Match for some silky skills and a cheeky little back heel during the second half.
