Pudsey Juniors Girls U16s were taken to the limit at the weekend by Rothwell Girls U16s but the character of the team came through and they managed to get a win in a very tough game. This game was end to end with both teams on top of their game but it was Pudsey who scored first when Vicky scored with what is becoming her trademark a 30-yard screamer in to the top corner of the net. Rothwell then equalised before a Sarah shot, half saved by the goalkeeper, was bundled in to the net by Lorna, half time 2-1 to Pudsey. Rothwell came out all guns blazing in the second half and the back five of Sarah, Liz, Jess, Rachel and Laura had to be on top form to keep Rothwell at bay, the Pudsey goalkeeper Emily pulled off two top class saves to keep the score at 2-1. However, Rothwell pressure finally told and they equalised with an unstoppable shot in to the top corner of the Pudsey goals. At this stage the match was evenly poised and either team could have won but Pudsey dug deep and were driven on by the midfield duo of Naomi-Jayne and Vicky they clawed their way back in to the game. Pudsey’s third goal came when the Rothwell defender handled in the area and Faye Boshell calmly slotted home the penalty before Charlotte Walker cut in from the wing and rifled home a shot to make it 4-2 to Pudsey. |
