Woodkirk U11s had to settle for a single point in a game that, although played in good spirit by the lads, was sadly overshadowed by the conduct of the some of the parents and coaches during the later stages of the game. The day was off to a bad start even before kick off as last minute repairs had to be carried out to the goals, which had been vandalised overnight. Repairs successfully done the game kicked off on time. The opening exchanges were pretty much even until Kennedy, looking lively, fed the ball through to Moxon but his last touch was just too long and the keeper gathered first. Garforth had a couple of chances at the other end before Woodkirk made it count when Moxon got through on goal and slotted home 1-0 Woodkirk. A second goal followed shortly after, again from Moxon who timed his run perfectly to outpace the defence and make it 2-0. Just when Valley were starting to look comfortable they were countered with a good flowing move from Garforth, their striker taking it round the keeper to finish well. They nearly got a second when an almighty goalmouth scramble developed, but Woodkirk eventually managed to clear. Woodkirk were awarded a penalty just before half time when Moxon, clear through on goal, was brought down. Kennedy had no trouble driving the ball home into the bottom right hand corner. 3-1 at the break. The second half saw Garforth come out fired up and quickly put the keeper Naylor under pressure. He produced some fine saves but eventually they got one past to make it 3-2. The Garforth team could now sense a comeback but the enthusiasm from parents and coaches had got out of hand with protests and comments being made towards the referee during play. Garforth managed to equalize on 45 mins and were soon after awarded a penalty. The kick was taken but disallowed for players encroaching the area. This did nothing to calm frayed tempers and the rest of the game was played out in a very hostile atmosphere. The game ended 3-3. Despite everything the lads from both teams put in a good performance today, it's a pity that the game won't be remembered for that. Woodkirk man of the match was Kemp. |
