Garforth Villa 4 - 2 Woodkirk Valley

By site user Mark Holden
Garforth League Supplementary Cup, Round 2, U11, Sunday 15 January 2006.

Woodkirk U11s were put out of the Supplementary Cup second round on Sunday by quality opposition from a lower division in the Garforth League.

Initially a lively start for Valley who went on the attack straightaway. Moxon had the first chance on goal when he intercepted the keepers kick out but his shot went wide. Woodkirk had all of the early possession and it was a full five minutes before the home side got the ball out of their own half.

During the next 10 minutes Woodkirk continued to have most of the possession although Garforth did look dangerous coming forward. There were chances at both ends until Garforth made it count when their striker took on the defence and finished well. 1-0 Villa

There then followed a spell of sustained pressure from Villa as they gained confidence and looked to increase their lead. Valley were on the back foot now and couldn't get the ball upfield. Garforth were looking sharp and focused and their efforts were duly rewarded with a 2nd goal. A third came shortly before half time with a splendid strike from outside the box.

After the break Woodkirk looked a different team and immediately from the kick off came forward and had a shot just cleared wide. Soon after that the ball was picked up by Jagger who made himself an opening and unleashed a cracking shot into the back of the net from 25 yards out.

Woodkirk then scored again on 45 following a good spell of pressure and several close efforts when L Kennedy won the ball on the half way line and put it through to Parry whose shot came back off the post before being finished by Moxon. Woodkirk were now looking favourites to score next but it never came. Caught on the break, a one on one with the Woodkirk keeper saw a Villa shot saved well but come back out to be finished on the second attempt. Woodkirk continued to battle hard in the closing stages but there would be no further goals.

Final score Garforth Villa 4 Woodkirk Valley 2

Woodkirk Man of the match was Kemp, well played.

Best wishes to Garforth for the quarter finals. Woodkirk can now focus their attention on the league, next away to Seacroft on Sunday 22 January.
