Woodkirk Valley went through to the quarter finals of the GJFL Supplementary Cup with a comprehensive 9 - 0 victory against Beeston Juniors B in Round 2. With only 10 men from the start, Beeston struggled to contain a Valley team playing full of confidence after three straight wins in recent weeks. Woodkirk opened the scoring after just two minutes through Liam from the penalty spot, 10 minutes later a fine strike from Dan from the edge of the box made it 2-0 and a second goal from Liam on 20 minutes meant Valley went in 3-0 up at half time. With the added advantage of playing downhill Woodkirk controlled the game in the second half with Liam completing his hatrick soon after the restart. Stevie also scored a hatrick with Matthew and Tom getting on the scoresheet as well. Beeston put up a very spirited performance throughout and did put the Valley defence under pressure several times throughout the game, but particularly strong performances from Matthew and Jack in defence secured a clean sheet for the away side. A very good team performance with Jordan having his best game so far for Woodkirk, working hard on the left side of midfield and linking up well with the strikers throughout. It is back to the league next week with a home game against Stanningley Albion. |
