Woodkirk Vally 6 - 4 Seacroft WMC Colts

By site user Steve
Garforth League, Division 2, U12s, Sunday 4 December 2005

A very sluggish start by Wookirk despite the lunchtime kick off. The first half proved painful to watch for the home supporters, with no passion or determination throughout the team. The link-up play between the Woodkirk midfield and attack was non existent which resulted in continuous pressure being put on the Valley defence as Seacroft pushed for an opening goal.

This finally came half way through the first half and was swiftly followed by three more well taken Seacroft goals as Woodkirk stood and watched, giving Josh in the Valley goal no chance. The remainder of the half continued in a similar vein but in one of their rare visits into the Seacroft half of the pitch Woodkirk managed to snatch a late goal through Dan and go in 4-1 down at half time.

Three substitutions were made at half time to the Valley team and this had an immediate impact in the second half. With much more fight and commitment Woodkirk took the game to Seacroft from the start.

The central midfield partnership of substitute Stevie and Joe started winning more balls in the centre of the field and forced the play down the flanks through Jack and Lewis. The pressure soon paid off and Valley snatched a second goal with a fine shot from the edge of the box by Stevie.

It was not long before the game swung further in Woodkirk's favour as Jack stole in from the left wing to grab a third goal. With Woodkirk now dominating the game, Matthew was switched into midfield and Christian slotted in at centre half. The incredible turn around continued when a superb through ball by Ryan was finished off in fine style by Liam.

At 4-4 Woodkirk could now smell victory and continued to push forward for the winner, which soon came through a close range finish from Tom, looking much sharper after coming on as a second half substitute. The Woodkirk defence had to remain solid throughout the second half with Matthew and James fulfilling that task admirably. The amazing comeback was completed when Liam scored his second goal late in the game.

Great character shown throughout the team to over-turn a 4-0 deficit - well done Woodkirk !!
