Gig Reviews

Four Day Hombre @ City Varieties

By site user Duncan Laing
Tonight is an unbelievably special night for Four Day Hombre and their fans.

Four Day Hombre
Four Day Hombre

With their first official release off their fan funded record label and confirmation that their video has made the MTV2 play list, means there is plenty to celebrate. All there is left to do is play one of the biggest shows of their career.

Minutes before Four Day Hombre take to the stage they get word that The City Varieties Music Hall has sold out. As the curtain goes up and the 500 fans take to their seats the atmosphere isn't so much electric as nuclear. After a fitting introduction the band wanders on stage in their usual polite manor, the audience is all smiles and cheers but none happier than the five guys on stage, beaming from ear to ear.

The mammoth applause echoes around this amazing venue and opening song Drink sparks a 505 strong sing-along. Every song on tonight's set seems better than I remember it. Either it's because the venue's sound quality is so perfect or because everyone around me is as big a Hombre fan as myself. "It's like seeing everybody I've bumped into at gigs over the last two years!" laughs Si after the gig "I'm totally mesmerised by the occasion."

That really shines through from every band member and especially when Si takes time to tell the crowd they owe them. The Alamo Music record label is fan funded and proof of the sheer dedication of the fans. After taking an oath to buy at least one copy of the 1000 Bulbs single the crowds' patience finally gives. With 1000 Bulbs playing the crowd start to take to their feet dancing and jumping around, a small crowd appears at the bottom of the stage, jumping in unison.

The rest of the set is a blur of beauty, honesty and loud rocking ecstasy delivered by five guys that should be selling out arenas by now. With their début album on the horizon, a DVD and a single on the way expect to be hearing a lot about this band in the near future.

They are without doubt the best thing to come of the Leeds music scene for years.
