There has been a huge rise in interest recently in organic and local produce, and a farmers' market is a great opportunity to try food from your area. Farmers' markets support local growers and producers and everything on sale is grown, reared, pickled, baked, brewed or smoked by the stall holder. | | Ostrich burgers on offer at the market |
Items for sale at the Pudsey Farmers' Market include home made chutneys, honey, olives and crusty breads as well as organic fruit and vegetables. There is also something for shoppers on the look out for the unusual - including rhubarb and liquorice cheeses and a huge variety of different meats such as ostrich burgers and venison. Many traders operate a 'try before you buy' policy so there's a chance for everyone to sample something different. It's not just food, though - there are also craft stalls with original artwork, as well as stalls selling plants, essential oils and handmade soaps. The first farmers' market to be held at Pudsey on Thursday 30 June 2005 was a huge success with many of the 20 stalls selling out of stock. The market will be held monthly, on the last Thursday of every month in Pudsey marketplace.
