TerritoriesIt is the official language in Macedonia, and officially recognized in the Korça district in Albania. Home speakers can be found in Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Albania.
AlphabetThe language is written in the Macedonian Cyrillic script.
First examplesThe first texts that distinguish themselves as Macedonian, rather than some other Slavonic language, are 10th century religious codices, written in Glagolitic script.
Other factsCyrillic, with Glagolitic, was an old Slavic script. Cyrillic survived instead of Glagolitic because it was closer to Greek. It was therefore an easier translation tool to use when scholars and theologians like Cyril introduced Christian writings to the Slavic people.
