Macedonian, Makedonski

	Macedonian, with Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Slovene and Bulgarian, is a Southern Slavonic language. It is most closely related to Bulgarian, and the two share similarities to Romanian, Greek and Albanian. These five languages make up the Balkan Sprachbund (language league).
	2,000,000 speakers
	It is the official language in Macedonia, and officially recognized in the Korça district in Albania. Home speakers can be found in Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Albania.
	The language is written in the Macedonian Cyrillic script.
	The first texts that distinguish themselves as Macedonian, rather than some other Slavonic language, are 10th century religious codices, written in Glagolitic script.
	Cyrillic, with Glagolitic, was an old Slavic script. Cyrillic survived instead of Glagolitic because it was closer to Greek. It was therefore an easier translation tool to use when scholars and theologians like Cyril introduced Christian writings to the Slavic people.
