Gwen Hurst wanted to share her skills and life experiences with local youngsters, so she became a member of the Grandparenting Scheme for Age Concern Preston and South Ribble.
Gwen helps the children to read
The scheme aims to bridge the generation gap by bringing youngsters and older people together. As you can see from the picture above, it seems to make everyone involved very happy!
Gwen spends several hours a week at St Matthews School in Preston helping children to read. She's one of many volunteers in the scheme who encourage children to play and learn practical skills like knitting, sewing and mending bikes.
If you'd like to volunteer for the Grandparenting Scheme, you can find out more about what's involved from Alan Forbes on 01772 552879.
