Figure Like Ghost

Luke from Figure Like Ghost gives us the longest band history we've ever seen...

Why not tell us all about your unsigned band?

Your band name?
Figure Like Ghost

Where are you based?
Formby/Southport

Who plays what?
Luke Mawdsley plays Drums/Vocals/Guitars/Bass/Percussion. Dave Rigby Plays Vocals/Bass/Guitars/Keys/Viola Joe Mawdsley plays Guitars/Vocals/Bass Den Brice plays Guitars/Bass/Vocals/Percussion

Anyone got any bad habits?
Not really, Luke (that's me) annoys the rest of the band by being too serious sometimes.

What's the band's history so far?
The roots of figure like ghost go back to pre-teen years and primary school days in the sun (and rain) - David and Luke jammed at David's house when they were about nine! And started their first ever band in 1999 called Crash with guitarist John Bishop. David and Luke would always talk about the fame to come. Childish thoughts of touring the world… Crash played one gig at a talent contest and won by playing a song you may even recognise now, Crash. But as the days of playtime were coming to a end they realised they would have to split, David and Luke going to different schools and all...
So time passed and the times of such bands like Chilblain and various other bands came, and went, I suppose we took these times as experience. I could say fate brought us back together or luck whichever it was a good thing. In what must have been May 2004 Luke and David met up again at a school reunion thingy, Luke mentioned that they should jam sometime and that they did, Luke got his brother to play guitar (he had been in some of Luke's bands before) and so I think the band was formed, in the first practice they played Crash and a new song Dates For Diaries, it sounded good so it was decided upon. So In the summer 2004 countless hours were spent getting songs together for cancelled gigs (just our luck)
Embassy Stoned as they were known then played their first gig at Luke's friends house in what must have been July and it was rather good. Luke's friend Sam offered to record them recorded a CD in July with songs like Minature, Crash, A Dream and others. After that the band played in strange places such as a national trust car park with a DIY PA. Embassy Stoned played another gig in August at Fred's which was filmed so on and so forth, Until a gig that never happened where various problems such as a fall out between Dave and Luke came, I suppose it wasn't really a fall out they just never talked for a while, Luke assuming Dave wasn't in the band anymore. Embassy Stoned went through a dark patch of various members and change over a six month period which surprisingly nothing really happened. Luke got a new friend Den to join the band as second guitarist and it was going well so for like three months they never really had a singer (no offence to anyone). In the middle of a short break out of nowhere Luke rang Dave and they chatted like old women for like a hour and they agreed that Dave should still be in. So it was to be the band as it is and always will be, I hope, stll getting stronger, tighter and better, oh and I forgot we changed our name from Embassy Stoned (or Embassy Stone as Dave called it) to Figure Like ghost.

Style and influences?
We have a lot of influences as we all have different backgrounds. Here are some bands... Pink Floyd, My Chemical Romance, Milk, Business Owls, Peter Gabriel, Him, David Bowie, Wilco, Bob Marley, Weezer, Velvet Revolver, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ste Vai, Rage Against The Machine, Feeder, Ben Kweller, Children Of Bodom, Biffy Clyro, Iron Maiden, Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, The Mars Volta, At The Drive-in Jimmy Eat World and everything else!

Best moment so far?
I'm not really sure yet, we haven't really played many gigs but playing in Fred's garage was well awsome, or even playing in front of Luke's grandparents. Haha

Worst/most embarrassing moment so far?
Erm, there hasn't been one so far.

Anything else we should all know about?
