Uncle Jeff - Lyrical Lancashire lads
Uncle Jeff on stage
Uncle Jeff on stage

Uncle Jeff are a group of local lads - Ste, Dob, Rob, Duncan and Phil - who live life on the edge. Lead singer Ste Hudson has met Ken Dodd.

We asked Ste more about his rock n roll lifestyle...

What's your musical style?
"Quirky pop, with dirty guitars and lyrics which are sometimes surreal and sometimes quite frank about life."

Fave takeaway?
"Chinese. Pineapple fritters for afters."

Who spends the longest doing their hair?
"Duncan (keyboards) won't leave his house or anyone else's without hair gel."

Claim to fame?
"My great uncle, William Blezard, used to play piano on televsion and in concerts for Honour Blackman, who played Pussy Galore in James Bond and Marlena Deitrich. I've also met Ken Dodd."

Very impressive. What's your fave telly programme?
"
Peepshow."

Which celeb would you like to snog?
"L
auren Laverne. The way her eyes are slightly too far apart is intriguing.

Worst fashion mistake you've ever made?
"Me and a mate decided to go as each other for a halloween fancy dress party. He's black and I'm white, so he hit the sudocreme and I ended up covered in boot polish. It didnt come off properly so I ended up looking really dirty for a week."

Inspired. What's your favourite pie?
"Apple pie, but my dad grows rhubarb so I make do with that."

What's your idea of a good night out?
"A good night out starts in the afternoon (obviously), with sunshine and a bottle of wine. Then it's off to the pub, usually the Waterwitch in Lancaster cos it's by the canal, then to the cheapest, roughest pub in town for cheap rough beer, and then off to a club that plays indie music to dance my skinny ginger bottom off."

What a lovely image. What do you wear in bed?
"Lauren Laverne."

What are you going to spend your first million on?
"Just ask any lottery winner in Lancashire, there's nothing better than a speedboat moored to your driveway."

Most embarrassing moment while performing?
"Our drummer, Phil stripping off. He made me feel inadequate."

Any annoying habits?
"I've been told I blink a lot."

Fave drink?
"I like real ale, B*****d St. Brides is a good un."

Cats or dogs?
"Cats. I admire their honesty. They make no secret of the fact they hate you. I have three and we have a healthy mutual disgust for one another."

Your first...
Car...

"A plastic red and yellow cosy coupe though I cant drive it anymore cos it's too small and has leaves and rain in it."

Kiss...
"Sounds sick but I snogged a girl at primary school aged 7."

Memory...
"My friend Adrian's turtle."

School...
"St. Peters, Simonstone (that's fascinating isn't it?)"

Hangover...
"After drinking red aftershocks, I stayed at a mates who'd just had a new cream carpet put in his room. The memory of me and his dad scrubbing half-digested pizza out of it in the morning is still too fresh..."

The EP is now finished and will be reaching your ears some time in November 2005. The record is tentatively titled 'It's all Blood and Thunder!', after a flippant remark made by my grandmother whilst watching a David Attenbrough documentary on sealions. Any other (better) suggestions are most welcome. It features the following tracklist: 'Begging for a Meteorite', 'T', 'See You in the Distance', and 'Juggernaut' all recorded in beautiful Lancaster.
