Boyes was 5-1 up against Tot but a wrong choice of shot enabled his opponent to get back in and he ended up 6-5 down. The 25 year old laughed: "I should have gone 6-1 up - I stunned a ball in instead of rolling it in off two cushions." He added: "I played really well from 6-5 down, though, I took out some really good finishes!" Boyes - who beat 2004 runner up Chang Pei-wei 9-6 and Serbia's Goran Mladenovic 9-4 in the group stages - is up against Japan's Kenichi Uchigaki or Korea's Ryu Seung-woo next. If he wins that he could set up a dream pool date with legend Efren Reyes although he has to beat Europe's number 1 - Russia's Konstantin Stepanov and Jeff De Luna first. Meanwhile, Blackpool's other representative Daryl Peach now faces the holder - Ronnie Alcano - on the main table later on today.
