Radio 1's Big Weekend comes to Preston

Everything you need to know about Europe's biggest free ticketed festival - in Preston!

Radio 1's Big Weekend, will this year take place in Moor Park, Preston on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 May 2007.

Hosted by Radio 1's roster of DJs, the Big Weekend is Europe's biggest free ticketed festival and kicks off the UK festival season.

With a 30,000 strong capacity across the two days, the event is broadcast on Radio 1 and will be available to watch on BBC Three and via the red button on interactive television.

This year a third stage will be introduced bringing even more UK and international artists across a huge array of musical genres – all live.

Ticket information...

If you've registered for tickets you will find out on Wednesday 9 May if you are successful.

Each ticket is individually barcoded and will be scanned on the gate. They also have names and addresses on them and customers may be asked to show identification to prove ownership of the tickets.

This barcode system also means people can invalidate the tickets we send them and ask for replacements. Therefore if you buy tickets from someone else you will have no way of knowing if the barcode is valid.

Valid tickets for Radio 1's Big Weekend are free. There are no tickets on sale through any outlets.

Under 14s...

Jason Carter, head of Live Music and Events at Radio 1 has confirmed that children under 14 CAN attend with an adult, even though it says this is not possible on the tickets.

Residents' information...

The strong message from Preston City Council is to leave the car at home and travel to Preston and Moor Park by public transport. Moor Park is located in a residential area and there will be no on-street parking over the weekend. Parking restrictions will apply and parking attendants will be out to enforce them, issuing penalty charge notices where necessary.

Two free park and ride sites have been set up for the event – one south of Moor Park, at Preston Bus Station, and the other north of the park at Preston College’s St Vincent’s Road campus. Free parking permits for the sites have been issued with all tickets to the event in a bid to encourage visitors not to bring their cars to Moor Park.

Preston North End home match day parking restrictions will also apply and residents living within the restriction zone will be issued with permits.

Traffic and travel...

Stay tuned to BBC Radio Lancashire for the latest information on traffic and travel around the area. We will have special updates from local residents as our on the spot reporters!

Age 13-19? Get behind the scenes and showcase your creative talent!

The BBC Blast truck joins Radio 1's 1 Big Weekend in Preston on 18 May for three days of free creative activity for 13- 19 year olds as part of its 30 week tour of the UK. Blast’s aim is simple: to encourage young people to express themselves through creativity.

The Truck will be parked up at the Flag Market Square in the City Centre of Preston for three days inviting young people to sign up for free workshops and showcase events during the Blast Tour. Over the three days there will be an array of workshops including Music Journalism, where four lucky 13-19 year olds will get the chance to go backstage to interview some of the artists performing on the main stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

The Blast Scrap Fashion competition is aimed at passionate individuals who want to use their artistic creativity by creating a fashion item using denim. Judged by leading designer, Wayne Hemingway, two winners will showcase their work at the Paris Ethical Fashion Show 2007!

For all the budding musicians out there, there will be an opportunity to speak to experts on everything from where to get your inspiration, to getting noticed and how to get a record deal.
