The festival consisted of a 5-a-side tournament alongside various skill stations all run by FA qualified coaching staff who are also students at the College - providing girls with a full day of football. This meant that although they couldn’t avoid getting wet - the girls didn’t have time to get cold as they were constantly on the go, even between their matches. At the skill stations the girls got to have a go at: - bending free kicks round a wall
- a SAQ session
- learning some new skills including dribbling, shooting, heading and first touch.
The standard was impressive throughout the tournament and the enthusiasm during the skill stations was excellent. There were four groups in the tournament with the top ones progressing to the semi finals. Corpus Christi and Longridge won their groups clearly with Worden winning theirs on goal difference over both Morecambe and Penwortham Girls, having all tied on points. In group two Skerton and Penwortham Priory were tied on points, goal difference and goals scored and had drawn the game they had played earlier. This meant that the group had to be decided on penalties. After 3-3 the teams still couldn’t be separated with Skerton eventually winning in sudden death. The semi-finals were also a close affair with Worden beating Longridge by a single goal and Corpus Christi beating Skerton on penalties after a goalless game. The final was an excellent display of talent, watched by all of the other teams, who created a great atmosphere. After another closely fought match Worden scored the winner in the last few seconds of normal time. After the final all of the girls were presented with a certificate of participation and a goody bag.
