Spooky Stories

The Black Bull Inn, Old Langho

The Black Bull is haunted by the ghost of a Cavalier, William Dutton, who was part of the Royalist forces.

Landlady Pam Morrell tells us the story...

"He took a fancy to one of the girls who used to work here, who unfortunately held a previous assignation with another gentleman, and he wasn't too pleased, so he did away with him.

Nowadays, he does try and move things around, he pinches things like make up and tweezers. He's also locked one of the girls in the cellar for a short while. The door doesn't stick, and it has to be physically held because she would be pulling it to open it and she just couldn't budge it. She thought we were all playing tricks on her, but we weren't - we weren't anywhere near!

Previous owners have felt the presence of William, one couple used to come down in a morning and there would be reams of till rolls about the bar floor. But the strangest one is a couple's little girl who was falling down the stairs. She would have gone headlong into a stone wall and her dad just couldn't get to her, when someone caught her and put her upright on the bottom step."

I think our house is haunted because one of my brother's toys kept going off even when the batteries were taken out and I keep hearing creaking noises and the phone keeps ringing but no one is on the other end of the phone.
