Writing a Key Skills-AS/A2 assignment for Level 3 Communication

The assignment you are about to give your students asks them to investigate the language used in a number headlines from different newspapers. You will need to ask your class to work in groups to conduct their investigation. The students will be asked to identify areas for investigation, analyse the language in the data set, give a presentation to the rest of the class and write a report on their findings.

In preparation for using this exercise with your class, you will need to do the following things...

1. Check with your AS/A2 Specification to identify where opportunities for candidates to demonstrate levels of achievement in Communication Key Skills are provided. All Specifications include such information.
2. Identify which Key Skills Component Assessment Criteria the assignment will meet.
   
3. Identify how the assignment will show evidence that the Assessment Criteria for each Component were met.
4. See if the assignment can meet any Component Assessment Criteria from Application of Number and/or Information Technology.

You should encourage students to:

• use a word-processor to put together all their presentation materials;
• use a word-processor to extend written documents;
• use visual aids, such as charts or graphs, in their presentations;
• write a PowerPoint presentation;
• include computer-generated images in their extended written documents.
