Introduction
How is this going to help at work?

If you look around any office, one of the things you'll see most of is possibly computers. Seems like almost everything is done using something technological. Well, that's no surprise really.

Companies obviously want to get things done in the most effective ways, especially ways that save time and money. And, their prayers were answered with all those wonderful new developments in technology.

Of course, that means that your boss is going to expect you to know how to use them. Some of the things that you might be expected to know include:

  • Working with e-mail
  • Using word processing packages to writing letters and mail merge
  • Using word processing packages to write and present reports
  • Using software to prepare and give presentations
  • Use spreadsheets to collate and present information
  • Creating graphs to illustrate information in spreadsheets
  • Inputting data
  • Managing electronic documents and files
  • Being able to use the internet to find information

Basic ICT skills are essential, even if you're not in computing jobs. If you know the basics will mean that you'll be able to get straight on with the job at hand and prove that you can work efficiently.
