It is possible to quote books, but you must include the source in a reference section at the end of your work. This reference section is called the bibliography. The aim of a bibliography is so that a reader can look at your essay and do two things: - Check whether you are telling the truth by referring to your sources.
- Go and find out more about a particular point you have mentioned.
The purpose of a bibliography is to allow a reader to go back to the original information. The information you need to reference is usually on the inside of the first page within the book. You will need the following information for your bibliography:
- Author
- Date - this should be written in brackets
- Title - this should be written in italics
- Place of Publication
- Country
- Publishers
The information needs to be presented in the following order: - Author (Date), Title, Place of Publication, Country: Publishers
This is an example of what your reference entries should look like: - O'Dell, L. (1997), Bridge over my pond, Leeds, UK: Hagden Press.
