Writing an Essay
Preparation



The first thing Becky has to do is to make sure that she understand the question.

Write the question down and highlight the important words and phrases. This will make it easier to focus.

Becky asks herself what the brief is asking for. She also thinks about the question and writes down a few of her initial thoughts on what she might be expected to include.

key pointBecky has assessed that she needs to:

  • ... find out about what health clubs offer,
  • ... find out what people expect from health clubs,
  • ... find out what factors are involved in setting up a successful health club,
  • ... think about where the "local" area extends to,
  • ... find out about the costs of involved.

Becky then thinks about the amount of time she has to do her essay. She finds it useful to use a calendar to identify when she needs to complete the different stages of writing her essay.

  • Completing her research,
  • Completing her planning,
  • Writing and checking her essay,
  • Checking and preparing her references,
  • Handing her essay in.
