Jamie Staff

Olympic champion Jamie spoke to BBC Radio Kent's Roger Day about his experience in Beijing, how his career started in BMX in Folkestone and his hopes for the future.

Beijing 2008

The day that the Great Britain's sprint cycling trio clinched the gold medal in Beijing is firmly etched in many people's minds. They made it look easy. But it was the product of a lot of hard work over a long period of time.

Jamie talks about how it came together on the day and what it was like afterwards to realise such a fantastic achievement.

Starting out

A school teacher told Jamie's mum that he would "never amount to anything - he just wants to ride his bike". He was right about the bike but wrong about the achievement. Jamie explains how his love for BMX took him to America.

Lack of track

Jamie believes that in order for Great Britain to become a great sporting nation we need more volunteers and funding to create sports facilities for children that compare to those in the US and Australia.

The future

Jamie has said that he may not compete in London 2012 so what are his plans for the future?

Jamie Staff was also interviewed by BBC blast reporter Kaleem where he gave advice to 2012 Olympic table tennis hopeful Lewis Gray.
