"OAP - 13th October 2003"
by Philip Le Brocq
I'm now an OAP at sixty-five;
It seemed a distant age when I was young,
But now I'm there, I'm very much alive,
And feel I can shout out with joyous tongue:
Hurrah for Jersey with its beaches fine
Its rugged coastline, varied cove by cove,
Fantastic tides reveal the ormer's shine
And lobsters, blushing, on the bubbling stove.
Hurrah for being lucky to live here!
Where cows show beauty through each limpid eye;
Where Royals, vraic fed, tastier are each year,
And St Ouen sunsets? Well, for them, I'd die!
A third "Hurrah!" is for relations, friends -
They give meaning to life - are not its ends.
