Tea the Old Fashioned Way by Emma M Gascoyne She served up tea the old fashioned way With embroidered table cloth upon the tray A silver teapot lovingly polished Mouthwatering cakes soon to be demolished
Sandwiches in triangles cut Such dainty morsels for us to sup The lemon on a saucer, the milk in a jug She in her easy chair, I on the rug
Dainty china patterned with flowers The clock on the mantlepiece chiming the hour Starched white napkins For wiping sticky chins
Brioche and Wonders and raspberry swirls Tempting, delicious for this little girl She served up tea the old fashioned way Now it's a mug as I dash on my way
But still I recall, a memory to treasure Those wonderful teas that gave such pleasure.
