Love Abides

There are four loves that we can see
Affection, friendship, eros, charity.

Affection is concern and care
That mother and a child do share
And is called up, is love so needed
To comfort in request as heeded.

Friendship calls to share the same
Like calls to like, so this love came
To seek together, and to find
And in such joy our friendship bind.

Eros speaks from heart to heart
It reaches deep, to every part
Of being, as this love seeks more
To bind together, and adore.

Yet these derive from greater one
The fourth, the last, of God’s own son,
charity gives all, takes no sides,
And in eternity, this love abides.
