Jersey held the touring Northern Ireland side in almost every department, only losing the "Capita" trophy, presented as part of the Jersey F.A. Centenary celebrations, on a penalty shootout.

Jersey were in front in the fifth minute with a headed goal from Sam Dewhurst as he converted an inswinging cross.

Twenty minutes later Northern Ireland were level, a shot hit outside the penalty area from Peter Spratt beating Jack Jouanny.

The Irish boys enjoyed more possession in the later stages of the first half but Jersey's defence, pivoted by Tom Poole and Joel Speight, provided few opportunities for the visitors.

The best chance in the second half fell to Jersey as Craig Russell, from just seven yards out, struck his shot firmly, but straight at goalkeeper Aaron Hogg.

The Irish also created several half chances saved well by Jouanny and later by substitute goalkeeper Matthew Brookland, but after that the game in general petered out into a stalemate.

It was a stalemate that benefitted the visitors as in the penalty shootout, Jersey failed with their first three penalty kicks. Northern Ireland converted three of their first four, and with that 3-0 penalty success the Capita trophy will travel across the Irish Sea to the Emerald Isle.

Jersey manager Jon Welsh was delighted with his side's performance. "Ireland had more possession, they played with a lot of pace and tempo - they've got some tremendous players there but I think we showed that we were organised. The boys have taken from the training ground what we've tried to put in to the defensive side of the game. To be fair, not that we had many chances, but I don't think they did either."
