| | There have been a number of calls for Battle day to become and official public holiday, we want to know your opinion. |
 | | | Should Battle day be made into a public holiday? A number of places already close for half a day in the afternoon to allow staff to go to the Battle but it isn't an official day off. It is the highest profile event in the island's calendar but should business have to close? Or is it the right of all islanders to be able to go and see the parade? Have your say using the form on the right, all we need is your name and comments. We do reserve the right to not publish inappropriate comments. How about the idea of moving Battle day to another day such as Liberation day - creating a 'Jersey Day' once a year? Your Comments:
Philippa I think it should be a public holiday for islanders so there a bigger crouds. I also think battle should be a cheaper. Tony The Battle is held in a closed arena, for the purpose of making money. It isn't a festival, it's a profit generating venture. Why not keep the floats, the bands and everything else, but have it as the Island's annual carnival, for everyone. The boards set up to prevent people having a free look says it all..... Seamus NO ! Andy I think the battle of flowers needs to change drastically if it to survive another 100 years. Why not make it on a Saturday or Sunday when more people can attend, and why not lower the admission price.
Alot of Jersey people stay well away from the avenue and the battle on the day because they are simply not interested. Let the people of the island decide on the battle's future and not the Battle association.
