Interested in sport or music?

BBC Jersey have two part time work experience placements with our sport and music teams this summer.

Come and join this year's Blast National Tour

The BBC invites you to join in

Have you ever dreamt of interviewing cutting edge bands or world class athletes? Well, maybe BBC Jersey can help you achieve your goals.

Are you aged between 18 – 22 and have passion for music and sport? Are you eager to develop your reporting skills?

Well now you can with BBC Blast.

Blast is a fantastic opportunity to turn your passion into a career. We are looking to recruit two people for eight weeks work experience, working with the BBC Jersey sport and music teams.

It is a two day week and the successful applicants will cover everything related to sport or music.

They will get the chance to write reports, take photos and make videos about the events they have attended.

BBC Blast Application

It is also a brilliant opportunity to see how radio programmes and web pages are put together, and of course, it will all make for a great experience to put on their CV.

All you need is a genuine interest in sport or the music scene and the desire to share your enthusiasm with the audience.

Ideally, you will have some involvement in sport or music – whether it’s at school, university or in the community.

Hopefully, applicants will come armed with creative ideas on how to turn their own knowledge into content for radio and the BBC website.

But, you won’t be left without any guidance. The team here will be very helpful in assisting you when it comes to turning these ideas into reports.

Blast on Tour in Ipswich

On top of that you will get the chance to escape the rock in a two-day all-expenses paid trip to Bristol at the start of July.

There you’ll meet some of the other 40 Blast reporters from across the UK and receive some training.

You will be taught things like interviewing skills and how to write articles for the web.
The deadline for applications is 30 April and once we have the received your application and we like the sound of you, we will ask you to come in for an informal interview – which lasts about half an hour.

But you don’t have to worry that it will some Jeremy Paxman-type grilling. It is just to find out a bit more about you, and your expectations.

We’ll then choose the successful applicants, who will jet off for the training weekend before starting here in Jersey around mid July.

To apply just go to the BBC Blast site and sign up.

Ryan (Presenter, Jersey Introducing)
All applications over the age of 18 will be considered but the 22 cut off is mainly because the Blast scheme and all the training is tailored for and aimed at an 18-22 (university) age group.

It's a BBC wide scheme designed to give young people a feel for the media/journalism and reporting and isn't a 'traditional' work experience placement.

You get a goody bag and certificate when you finish!

Ruth
what's the reason for the age criteria, why is the cut-off age 22?

Anyone that applies and meets the age criteria will be considered for the post.

I'm hoping we'll have lots of applicants for the role - the music report will get to write about, talk about, listen to and interview people connected with music in Jersey - including visiting bands/djs as well as local bands and djs.

Sounds good but will it actualy choose anyone or do you have to be "involved" in the music scene already... the usualy choose "the usuals" from jersey.... But please consider the new comers..
