i think that there is too many deputies... there should be one for each parish district and no more.

A deputy does represent a particular parish, but they still have the chance to vote on issues which affect the whole island.

I can't understand why Jersey people can't understand why they can't vote for representatives in other parishes? because that's they way other countries do it. For instance what's the point in someone voting for a politician in cumbria if you live in kent? I was wondering that as a former resident of Jersey if you can vote for a representative if you are away from the island?

Howard - before you start accusing people of missing the point, you should atleast understand why deputy elections aren't Island wide! - you are picking people to represent your parish in the states... therefore it should not be up to someone in St Ouens to say who they'd like to see in St Saviour or wherever. Therefore it should not be an Island wide vote for the deputy elections...I'll admit it can be annoying to see certain people get in when there's nothing i can do about it - but it definitely should not be Island wide voting!

Yes, but i think you have slightly missed the point. They may have got 7000 votes but that is not the majority of voters - and how many of those were as a 6th choice to keep out the idiots? I also think it is often better to start out as a deputy - if your good you get well known for a good reason and can then have a good chance in the senatorial elections. Otherwise you can vote someone in as a senator who you don't really know and that is far more dangerous!The worst thing for me is there is nothing that i can do about candidates in other parishes - where it is blatantly obvious they will get in comfortably when no other parish majority would vote for them. Manipulating small people's minds with promises of lower taxes and scrapping GST... it's those people who will finish off Jersey...

John, your comments seem quite baffling. Those unsuccessful candidates at the Senatorial Elections got more votes islandwide than the candidates that did not stand. If someone got 7000 votes, but did not get elected, that is still 7000 people that want him in the States.I think it should be compulsory for anyone who wants to become deputy to run as Senator first - if he really wants to serve the island there is no reason not to.

It all seems quite worrying yet again! Some good strong candidates in certain parishes which would be of excellent value to the States - but a large ammount of idiots to go with them.Particularly worried about the urban parishes and districts as many of the senetorial rejects will be going for second best - seems they don't understand why they were rejected - however, it's not in the hands of the whole island which makes the danger a complete possibility!
