Simon Crowcroft has been voted in for a third term as St Helier Constable. The town electorate gave him a solid vote of confidence to continue in the role. Just under 19% of the electorate turned out to vote and it was an overwhelming majority in favour of the incumbent. Of the 2582 votes cast, 2317 went to Simon Crowcroft. Alvin Aaron, who was challenging for the position polled 253. There were twelve spoilt papers. Mr Speaking to BBC Radio Jersey, St Heliers newly elected Constable pledged to work to make voting easier. Constable Crowcroft says he'll be supporting Deputy Geoff Southern's calls to make it as easy as possible for people to register to vote. He told us that "I will certainly be working with him and others on any effort we can make to make the electoral process more user friendly. "Something I think we've got a system that’s designed to make it difficult for people to vote and it should be the very reverse of that." The Constable went on to explain that: "It is not good. In terms of democracy and legitimacy we need to get more people to the polls. "I think one of the things that struck me very forcefully during this campaign was the number of people that wanted to vote but couldn't. Either because they got to the station or found there had been some mix up or because they simply weren't on the register."
