Jersey Live 2006 has launched in style with an opening night packed full of musical madness, screaming fans and a few surprises. The arena looked better than ever with the Positiv stage flanked by two large screens showing the action from the stage as well as sweeping views of the crowd. The festival wasn't sold out or as full as it probably should have been but that didn't take away from what was, apart from a few minor glitches a night to remember. The only real disappointment of the night was Edith Bowman’s set, not Edith herself, she was bright, breezy and more than up to the job of getting the crowds excited. The problem was that, during her 30 minute set The Levellers were doing a sound check and setting up their instruments, which meant that you couldn't properly hear the songs she was playing. Other than that very minor hiccup it was a fantastic first day for what looks set to be a first class festival weekend. Velofax more than stood the test of playing as a major band, with some top rate new material that confirmed for existing fans why they love them and winning a mass of new fans in the process. Festival goers left the event without any obvious problems and the lighting back into town made a big difference to anyway making the journey on foot.
