A group which looks after Jersey's parks and gardens is unveiling a sculpture designed to encourage people to keep St Helier tidy. A wire sofa, armchair and television stuffed with rubbish has been created by artist Debbie Geal, and will be on show in a church yard in St Helier. Children from Le Pouquelaye school and members of the Community in Bloom group collected rubbish on clean up operations around their areas. The sculpture named Don't Get Too Comfy is stuffed with the litter they collected. | | Don't Get Too Comfy |
It's been sponsored by the Jersey Arts Trust and will be on show at the Bond Street end of the Town Church yard. Sue Rodriguez from the Community in Bloom group says it will serve a symbol to show people not to make a mess of Jersey town centre. She commented that "We have a St Helier community in bloom group and at one of our committee meetings somebody suggested we should do something to help teach children to not drop litter and to pick it up, and that we should do something constructive with it, from that a litter statue came about." |
