My TT

My plans for TT 2009 are the same as ever. I want to win and that’s what I’m going for. We have got a lot of really good local support this year and I am well up for it.

For one reason or another I didn’t have any sponsorship until very recently and then the local scene got it together, like it does, and here we are. I am really grateful for the help.

There isn’t one part of the course which stands out for me. I pretty much love the whole thing, even the bits which have bitten me, and there have been a couple of them.

Living over here I drive the roads every day. They are a part of my life. The big changes are in the machinery. What I ride has changed a lot over the years.

The bit of the circuit I do dread is Rhen Cullen due to the fact that I slid down there on my backside a few years ago! But I have got over that. It’s a place you have to treat with the utmost respect.

I had my first big spill in 1990. Although I was only 26 years old at the time, it took a bit of getting over. The last crash I had was a bit bigger and I’m an old man now so it took a lot of getting over! It’s mind over matter. 

I’ve done this all my life; I don’t know anything else so getting back to the racing after an accident is something I always have to do. You either pack it in and go and shrivel up somewhere or you just get on with it. I’m glad I got on with it. I can’t imagine life without the TT.
