A taste for tea

Russell Labey visits the unique tea plantation in Cornwall to sample the UK's first commercially grown cuppa.

The plantation is the brainchild of Jonathan Jones, head gardener at the Tregothnan estate on the banks of the River Fal.

Tregothnan Estate has created high quality tea conditions superior even to those in Darjeeling, home of the world’s most famous tea.

Tregothnan has a history of botanical firsts, and is home to original introductions of Magnolia and rarities from Darjeeling.

Tea at Tregothnan comes from a special form of Camellia sinensis.

Tregothnan can now boast a major achievement and world first - true English Tea.

Future developments at Tregothnan include a New Garden for Cornwall, a true tea garden with rolling acres of tea, factory, tearooms and visitor centre.

Russell follows Jonathan Jones' quest to launch his tea at one of London's top food stores.

Life after Swampy - how is the Tale Valley adapting today?

The valley was the scene of huge protests in the 1990s when the A30 dual carriageway was built.
