Your comments:

- "I had throat cancer and had my voice-box removed, but being positive helped me deal with this.

"I am glad you are in remission and I wish you the very best for the future.

I felt for you in the way you told your story."

- John E. Gould, Gilberdyke.

Please tell us about yourself

I was born in Warwickshire but moved to Yorkshire when I married in 1973. We moved to Easington in 1976.

I worked as a computer programmer before leaving to bring up my two daughters.

More recently I have worked as a shop/post office assistant, computer trainer, community play administrator, and creator of an archive and database of community plays nationwide.

It is now housed at the Theatre Museum, London.

In 1990 my family and I took part in 'A Day by the Sea', Easington's village play, and in 2000 I was involved in planning, organising and taking part in 'Holderness Saga' in Withernsea.

Involvement in these has led to an interest in the arts in all forms.

I belong to a local writers group, enjoy reading, and love going to the theatre and cinema.

What's your story about?

The good parts of having cancer - the kindness of friends and family, the prayers and thoughts, and the savings - the things you don't have to do.

Why did you choose to tell this particular story?

You read lots of things about the bad side of cancer, and there are some - but you never hear of the good things that happen.

I also think we need to talk about cancer - my mother died of it when I was 14, and nobody talked about her illness.

I don't think I even she knew she had it.
