Please tell us about yourself. I live in Hornsea with my wife who is a writer. I'm a retired police officer with 32 years service.
I retired in 1999 and my hobbies are west Texas rock music, water-colour painting, writing and fell-walking. My son is an artist living in Cyprus. What's your story about? My memories of playing with my dad on the beach at Hornsea during our holidays in the 1950's and hearing stories of his life in the Middle East from 1931 to 1943. His love of the people, culture and horses.
How I longed to visit those places and when I did in 2000, how I didn't find it quite as magical as he did.
It was not how I remembered his stories to be. The 'Intifada' had started and freedom of movement was restricted. Why did you choose to tell this particular story? Because I had photographs of the period. I think the imagery of the photos of the mid 30's to early 40's in Palestine, and later Hornsea Beach in the early 50's, may appeal to a wider audience.
The story is about broken dreams in one sense, as well as dreams realised.
