Unknown territory. By Elizabeth Fostel. Please tell us about yourself.
I am retired now, but trained as a nurse and midwife in London and Scotland before going to Australia in the mid-sixties.
Whilst there I lived and worked in Tasmania, Queensland, Northern Territory and Victoria, and generally had a brilliant time.
What's your story about?
My story spans a period of about ten days whilst working on an Aboriginal settlement.
It concerns a little boy who was brought to the hospital and the aftermath of that event.
It also highlights my naivety of Aborigine beliefs and traditions, which I soon learnt to accept and observe.
Why did you choose to tell this particular story?
I came across a photograph of several Aborigine ladies involved in my story and the memories just came flooding back.
Telling Lives has been an experience and education no-one should miss.
The team running Telling Lives were brilliant, funny, friendly, encouraging and ever ready to impart their expertise.
We were made to work hard but the end results were worth the blood and sweat, but I don't think there were tears.
Thank you all so very much. Play film
