Comment: : John Parish, Beverley Interesting how someone can come to terms with old feelings. Details of actions behind the German airmen can be found in "Luftwaffe over the North" by Bill Norman (Pen & Sword paperback, 1997)
The Brandesburton Project. By Peter St.John Campbell.
Please tell us about yourself.
I am 69 years-of-age and lead quite an active life even though I have survived two heart attacks and major surgery since moving to Hull in 2000.
I am a keen photographer and home movie maker, but I am trying to keep up with ever-changing technology that I do not fully understand. What's your story about?
My story in the main is about my deep hatred for Germans, which has stayed with me since childhood.
By a chance encounter whilst taking photographs at Brandesburton, I met some former Luftwaffe pilots who had come over to honour their former comrades.
Then, looking at these ageing veterans I became aware that they are just like you and me - human!
Why did you choose to tell this particular story?
This particular story for me personally is to lay the ghost of hate to rest once and for all.
Throughout life in general, everybody is vulnerable; as in any conflict there may be victors when in fact we are all losers.
This has been a great experience, not only the opportunity to meet BBC staff but also to meet others with stories to tell.
