Cancer centre nears completion

A £70 million, state-of-the-art cancer hospital is nearly finished.

The unit, based at Castle Hill hospital in Cottingham, has been 10 years in the planning and construction.

The design brief was to make it as little like a hospital as possible. It has open, airy interiors and is surrounded by gardens.

The facility will be handed over to the health trust next month and it is hoped the first patients will be admitted in August.

Look North's Vicky Johnson talks to Oncology Professor Mike Lind about the impact the centre will have on the region's cancer treatment.
