Zoned living
Zoned living
Divide the space into two. One area is for sleeping, whilst the other is for doing homework. Position the bed along the dividing wall and create portholes through to the work area thus letting the light from the window into the bunk beds.

Cover the back wall of each bunk with a photographic transfer. Created for use behind aquariums, these images provide a bright, interesting and individual environment for each boy.
Privacy
Privacy
Hang curtains around each bunk to allow each boy privacy. This will also allow one boy to sleep in a dark area if the other is reading or has the light on.
Storage space
Storage space
Use high street storage solutions to house the boys toys. Use simple floor to ceiling wardrobes containing shelves rather than hanging space. Flat fronted doors will cut down on dusting in the room
Funky bright designs
Funky bright designs
Paint the walls bright blue. To prevent the blue from looking flat and dull, mask off areas in oval TV like shapes and then introduce bright colours such as green and other shades of blue to the design.
Homework desk
Homework desk
In front of the window build a large recessed desk to allow both boys to do their homework side by side in good light. The desk can also be used for storage.
Carpet and funky lamps
Carpet and funky lamps
Carpet the room to help soundproof the boys room from the rest of the house. Place lava lamps around the room to continue the space age retro feel.
Top Tip

When using lots of plasterboard or MDF, remember that before it has been painted it will look drab and absorb the light. This will change when you have covered them in your chosen colour.
