I am a young man, who's Grandfather was in the Army nearly ten years before war broke out, my Grandfather landed on the beaches at Normandy in 1944, this was Sword Beach.

I am particularly very, very fond of my Grandfather in many ways but his war service fascinates me and I can listen to his tales over and over again.

I am trying to put more meat to my Grandfather's service records, I know when he joined the Army in December 1929 he was sent to Fenham Barracks in Newcastle, before moving to Mons Lines at Catterick, then he served at Brancepeth Castle the RHQ of the Durham Light Infantry.

My Grandfather is a retired WOII Armourers Sergeant and was transferred to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and then in to the REME when it was formed in 1942, he was on the staff of the 70th Infantry Brigade, which was part of the 49 WR Divison, alongside 146 and 147 Brigades.

Any particular helpful suggestions about any of this would be particularly warmly recieved and also any information about Fenham Barracks in particular would be very welcome, any stories that anybody has or tales people can tell me please do.
