I and my twin brother Leonard, were born on the 12th January 1940 at Leyburn Villa, Strathmore Road, Rowlands Gill, Co. Durham.

The story is about our father Pte. Thomas Raymond Laybourne who was killed in action in Northern Germany on the 8th April 1945, just a month to the day before the 2nd World War ended.
