My husband arrived in England in 1942, aged 6. He had left Poland in September 1939, travelling via the Baltic States, Sweden and France with his father and mother, who then reached England in 1940, leaving Mark behind in Vichy France with his grandmother. He eventually reached England via Spain and Portugal, speaking only French. His father, now 90 and living in Paris, worked for MI6 during the war as member of the Polish Army. I could write more....
