About the contributor

I was born after the war and only heard about it from the stories my mother and father told me. The stories my mother told me, in fact; my father said very little about those years. My sister and I have lost both our mother and father. Dad passed away in 1979 and Mum in 1998.My sister gave our mother a journal to write down some of her memories. I live abroad and keep in touch with home via the internet and more particularly the BBC web site. So seeing WW2 People's War I felt I had to contribute some of Mum's memories in memory of them.
